Deterrents and Traps for Rats, Mice and Squirrels
Rats

  • Can measure up to 40cm in length (including the tail).

  • Usually dull grey in colour.

  • Usually feed on cereals and grains.

  • Prefer small enclosed spaces and like to travel up against something like a wall or a pipe.

  • They are carriers of many diseases which can prove fatal to Humans, including Weils Disease.

  • They can have up to 7 litters per year, usually a size consisting of about 8.


    • Mice

  • Less than 90mm in length.

  • Grey/brown fur.

  • Feed off cereals and seeds.

  • They will live up to 1 year and can survive without water.

  • They can have up to 8 litters per year with the average sizze being about 5.


    • Squirrels - The Grey Squirrel

  • Grey/brown fur and a white belly.

  • Feed off seeds, nuts, insects and bird eggs.

  • Well known for hoarding food in the autumn to survive the winter.

  • They brred between December-February and again in March-May.

  • Average litter size consists of 1-8 young and they live for approximately 8-9 years.

  • PLEASE NOTE RED SQUIRRELS ARE PROTECTED AND IF CAUGHT SHOULD BE RELEASED IMMEDIATELY.


    • Control Methods

  • For mice & rats methods of control can include trapping (either dead or live traps), poisoning and use of ultrasonic repellers.


  • The most effective method of control for squirrels is the use of live traps. Once caught the squirrel must be killed in a humane manner.
